How does divorce among expats work?

Expats and non-Muslims may choose to file for divorce in UAE or in their home country. However, since UAE is bound by Sharia laws, conflicts may arise if the divorcees’ home country and its laws do not align with UAE’s. This will affect the division of assets, child support and custody, and the like. On the other hand, if expats and non-Muslims choose to settle the divorce in UAE, Sharia laws will be applied.
